I've learned some Petiki Tirsia Kali basics for my Lasallian Enrichment Alternative Program and it rocks! It fascinated me that such exotic Filipino martial existed! Also, This art teaches you not to spare (ofcourse, it's still your own judgement) but to kill your opponents quickly and ruthlessly!( We saw their exhibition and imagine the mortal damage that an enemy is subjected to.) The fun part is that is proudly made in the Philippines in ancient times! The system is currently the gold standard in close quarter combat of the Force Recon Batallion of the Philippine Marines!( FYI: The ones who'd graced their presence in our LEAP are Force Recon Badass marines!)I'd liked it so much that I can learn the art sometime in the future!(I'm not easily pleased but this stuff knocked me off my seat! Also, I asked the civilian kali instructor to the marines and told me they only train marines and to civilians who've passed a background check ( Once you pass that, They'll train only in private which I think is expensive though) since they don't want it to go the wrong hands since it's damn deadly.) Try to check out! It's the bomb!

Here I'd include a brief excerpt from their site

The Heritage of the Past and the Legacy of the Future
By Timothy D. Waid

Article first appeared in the November 1998 issue of Citemar6. Official publication of the Philippine Marine Corps.

In this year of the Republic of the Philippines National Centennial Celebration, 1998, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reclaims it true martial heritage with the Philippine Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance Battalion designation as the modern BOLO BATTALION. The Filipino Bolo has been the trademark combat weapon for generations of Filipino warriors and heroes from Datu Lapu Lapu to the founding fathers of the Katipunan and now of the Force Recon Marines. Today, the Force Reconnaissance Battalion is the only unit in the Armed Forces of the Philippines that trains, equips, and operates utilizing the traditional combat weapons, tactics, and skills of Kali. Kali, the true and authentic martial art of the Filipino is a systematic art of combat bladefighting based on the science of strategy and tactics.

The chronicles of Philippine history have recorded the victories of the Filipino Fighting Man in the defense of freedom, independence and democracy. Victories achieved by the use of the weapons and tactics of Kali. Kali prevailed against the finest European steel when Datu Lapu Lapu, the first Filipino hero, felled the famed Spanish conquistador Ferdinand Magellan in 1521. The Filipino Bolo was feared throughout the history of the Spanish occupation and the art of Kali brought many regional victories in the revolts against Spanish subjugation. Generals Artemio Ricarte, Gregorio Del Pilar, Antonio Luna, and other heroes of the revolution against Spain lead their troops to battle with Bolo in hand. The Bolo of Andres Bonifacio, hero of the Katipunan, symbolizes that gallant struggle that lead to the declaration of the first Philippine Republic. The American era brought respect for the fighting tenacity of the Filipino in such great measure that it influenced the adoption of the .45 Caliber automatic pistol for the U.S. Armed Forces. During World War II the American military recognized the superiority of Kali for close quarters combat. In 1942 the United States Marine Corps enlisted Filipinos to teach combat bladefighting with the knife, bayonet, and other hand-to-hand combat skills to the elite Marine Raider Battalions that spearheaded the war against the Japanese in the central Pacific. Most significantly, the First (1st) Filipino Regiment of the US Army became recognized as the original BOLO BATTALION. This unit, along with others such as the Philippine Scouts and other guerrilla units established the modern military legacy of Filipino Kali during the liberation of the Philippines when they fought blade to blade and blade to rifle and defeated the finest units of the Japanese Imperial Armed Forces armed and trained in the art of the Samurai.

From this heritage of the past the Marines of the Force Reconnaissance Battalion continue the Kali legacy of the future. The battalion, under the command of Major Natalio C. Ecarma III officially adopted the Pekiti-Tirsia Kali system as the unit’s formal doctrine for close quarters combat. Approved by the Commandant of the Philippine Marine Corps, Major General Ponciano S. Millena, the Pekiti-Tirsia Military EDGED-IMPACT WEAPON SYSTEM marks the first time in more than fifty years that the indigenous fighting art of Kali has been formulated for modern combat and officially recognized as tactical warfighting doctrine.

The Pekiti-Tirsia Military EDGED-IMPACT WEAPON SYSTEM is a combative skills program in Close Quarters Combat (CQC) tactical doctrine specifically formulated for military special operation forces. This system provides the operator complete strategies, tactics and skills for the use of combat weaponry in the entire operational continuum of modern combat from high intensity conventional war through the full spectrum of unconventional warfare.

The Military EDGED-IMPACT WEAPON SYSTEM/CQC parallels military combat doctrine to locate, close with and destroy the enemy by fire (Edged-Impact weaponry offensive and counter-offensive strikes) and maneuver (footwork and mobility) or repel the enemy’s assault by fire and close combat.

The Military EDGED-IMPACT WEAPON SYSTEM is comprised of:

1. Combat Bolo /CQB/ Close Quarters Bolo
2. Combat Knife /CQK/ Close Quarters Knifefighting
3. Combat Empty-Hands /CQE/ Close Quarters Empty-Hands
4. Combat Bayonet /CQB/ Close Quarters Bayonet
5. Tactical Weapons Disarming /CQD/ Close Quarters Disarming
6. Tactical Weapons Retention /CQR/ Close Quarters Retention

Trained in this complete system of Close Quarters Combat/CQC and armed with the Combat Bolo, the Force Reconnaissance Battalion leads the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in tactical operational capabilities. Tasked with the missions of conducting air, ground, and amphibious reconnaissance for the three Marine Brigades and Regional Commanders as well as direct action operations such as raids, counter-terrorism, and hostage rescue, all Force Reconnaissance Marines are qualified combat parachutists and divers and are graduates of the Force Reconnaissance Qualification Course, Army Special Forces Qualification Course, or the Scout Ranger School.

Presently, the Battalion is composed of a Headquarters and Service Company and three (3) Force Reconnaissance Companies, the 61st, 62nd, and 63rd. Each company is composed of three (3) recon platoons and one (1) sniper platoon. The battalion is headquartered at Marine Barracks, Naval Station, Fort Bonifacio in Metro Manila, where the H&S Company and two recon companies are stationed. Each company is deployed on a rotational basis to Cotabato City, Mindanao in support of the Second (2nd) Marine Brigade. The Philippine Marine Corps maintains the majority of their forces in Mindanao and the Sulu Sea due to their continued victories against the numerous enemy forces and organized criminal elements that remain active in this historically war torn region.

Today, the Marines of the Force Reconnaissance Battalion enter the arena of warfare trained in the strategy and tactics of Kali and armed with the Combat Bolo, the symbol of victory, heroism, and excellence of the Filipino Fighting Man.

This is something my friend edge made me read last sunday while burning cd's to boot.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20050121/music_nm/life_spongebob_dc
U.S. Christians Issue Gay Warning Over Kid Video
Thu Jan 20, 7:39 PM ETBy Jill Serjeant LOS ANGELES (Reuters)

- Christian Conservative groups have issued a gay alert warning over a children's video starring SpongeBob SquarePants, Barney and a host of other cartoon favorites.

The wacky square yellow SpongeBob is one of the stars of a music video due to be sent to 61,000 U.S. schools in March. The makers -- the nonprofit We Are Family Foundation -- say the video is designed to encourage tolerance and diversity.

But at least two Christian activist groups say the innocent cartoon characters are being exploited to promote the acceptance of homosexuality.

"A short step beneath the surface reveals that one of the differences being celebrated is homosexuality," wrote Ed Vitagliano in an article for the American Family Association.

The video is a remake of the 1979 hit song "We Are Family" using the voices and images of SpongeBob, Barney, Winnie the Pooh, Bob the Builder, the Rugrats and 100 TV cartoon stars. It was made by a foundation set up by songwriter Nile Rodgers after the Sept. 11, 2001, hijacked plane attacks to promote the nation's healing process.

Christian groups however have taken exception to the tolerance pledge on the foundation's Web site which asks people to respect the sexual identity of others along with their abilities, beliefs, culture and race.

"Their inclusion of the reference to 'sexual identity" within their 'tolerance pledge' is not only unnecessary but it crosses a moral line," Dr James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, said in a statement on Thursday.

Rodgers was astounded at the attack. "That is so myopic and harsh. You have really got to look hard to find anything in this that is offensive to anyone. The last thing I am going to do is taint these characters," he told Reuters.

Dobson was quoted by the New York Times on Thursday as having singled out the wildly popular SpongeBob during remarks about the video at a Washington D.C. dinner this week. SpongeBob, who lives in a pineapple under the sea, was "outed" by the U.S. media in 2002 after reports that the TV show and its merchandise was popular with gays. His creator, Stephen Hillenburg, said at the time that although SpongeBob was an oddball, he thought of all the characters as asexual.

It is not the first time that children's TV favorites have come under the critical spotlight of the U.S. Christian right. Tinky Winky, the purse-toting purple Teletubbie, was in 1999 declared a homosexual role model by Rev. Jerry Falwell.

My response: What the F**k? Spongebob is gay, Asexual perhaps but gay?not! What are the christian groups here doing?Taking the trip to acid land popping the E's? Is this what they're doing something to a kid's video to help to reconcile the disaster after 9-11?

This is the thing the puritan christian groups do in their productive time ( I'm also taking potshots to catholic (Controlling the Philippine Society thru Da Church which tends to marginalize the likes of me and others in the society by posting their supposively "MORAL "rules and also does some killing on the side.) and islamic groups ( The "great" Jihad they have casted all over the world to fulfill a fundie state where everyone is killed by the name of Allah. They do that by hijacking airplanes, blowing up stuff, kidnapping and the most horrific of them all, exhibition killings) ). Hahahaha...Funny indeed. As I always think of, Religion is irrelevant. Religion is meme ( thought virus). Hahahaa....This is crap I should say...

Just commenting on the stuff that infuriated me. :D

Ack!!Finished my methodology stuff for FINBanK...I've to read a bit later from now...Just informing you that your's truly has uploaded a background ( named Chilbak.jpg) for page and for some strange reason when i apply the pic, the scrollbar colors reverts back to the default (crappy gray without the panache) setting. It cracks me up! I'm having difficulty implementing it! Could anyone help little 'ol me in evaluating my source code for the site on how to debug my code? any suggestions or help is highly appreciated. anyways, my email is benson_louie1@yahoo.com for response. Your help is appreciated. :D

Also, i'm prepping up for the national PSE(Philippine Stock Exchange) competition. I'm using daytrading ( also in a contrarian manner) and technical analysis strat for it since there is no point of going long-term strat since it's only for a month. Ack...If I could only have cutting edge market analytic data with me to beat the hell out of everyone but I guess i have to rely in graphs instead( Thinking of using stochastics and EMA).

Anyways, that's it for now. Chill :D

Na maste! It's been a exhausting week ahead of me...It made me tired silly ( A lot of bookie stuff, report doing , speech thingie, etc.) Ack...Anyways, I'm already preppy and ofcourse, yours truly tackled all the stuff that needs to be pinned down....

FINBANK is making go ape! anyways, that's life I should say! Also, in regards to this, I have just been in BSP manila ( also, I have the consumer banking group as company since they are also sniffing for data) for a quick visit in their library and unfortunately the data that I'm looking for is quite sophisticated that it cannot be serviced by the statistics area in the lib ( Well, so much for it.) that I have to forge a letter for Supervision and Examination Services (SES ) department for data! ( This department handles all the data that the banks in the Philippine Financial System that the BSP requires them by law to submit. The data i'm looking for is the universal and commercial industry totals of CTF's on a quarterly basis from 1997-currently available data).I hope this data mining stuff can be done asap so that analysis can start pronto.

Also, I let my teammates in FINBANK to start revving up their computers for research so that we can cover a lot of ground for the meanwhile.

I just felt like sharing it.

Hehehe...my AMACLC times. We're the winners from the last Mr and Ms AMACLC Roosevelt of 2001. Hehehe, The yester years..time flies fast isn't it? hehehe..

Also, I bought a agreement of infinite desire and care for the exotic hashbrowns that I love to be with for an indefinite time frame yesterday! A joyous day indeed! ( January 18, 2004 ; 1930, Quezon City, Philippines) may this usher many more joyous ( and the not so joyous) things to come! Onwards to the future! hehehee....Also, I'd suggested the shop where the hashbrowns are sold to fix the interior and they did it! Hehehe!!! A more fulfilling place as a result of it. I would definitely introduce this place to the world as soon as I can!

Also, I often hang out with this wonderful person. I will fill you with details when the time is right. Here's the pic of her! Ciara!

Anyways, gotta run! Ciao!

I'm here @ DLSU waiting for the MaFIA officers to show up for our interview for officership next school year! Ackk...I thought it was 0800 but I remember! They didn't mention if it's japanese time! Oh shucks...It's the venerable Filipino time! Oh well, I'm going to blog my hearts out while waiting..Also, I'm also chilling out in the lab with Jennai ( Another applicant for officership and good friend of mine. ).

About yesterday, FINBANK(Bank Management) requirements puts always to on the edge of things! Ack...Oh yeah, The reason why i'm so edgy about it is because we are required to read tons of books ( 2 local, 2 foreign and a lot of photocopied course guides) on a daily basis, pass the project requirements ( mind you, my group ( Ofcourse, I'm the leader again! as usual, it's always forced upon me.) got trust banking to work on) on a weekly basis and finally, mini-quiz every meeting! Ackk!!!...That's life I guess.

Oh wait, I have to run! Catch you later

Jawohl!! I wish you a happy new year ahead of you! It's been a roaring and wacky year that we have just survived my avid readers. All sorts of crap I have shared to you guys/gals thru thick and thin of my so "called" life. I wish that I could blog more last year but due to time constraints my responsibilities has been posted to me, I could only do a couple of short blogs during that time. Oh well, As I always say, That's Life.

Oh, I forgot to recap the events last year that i think is worthy of your time. I was supposed to do this recap last December 30, 2004 but due to my committments ( Family, Friends, Myself) , I was unable to do so. Anyways, Here's the long due recap of 2004 under my eyes:

1.I'd passed the WCE(Written Comprehensive Exam) for my one of my degree requirements in DLSU-manila! Yahoo!!! I feel that I can conquer the damned world! (FYI: WCE is made of up topics from our Financial management 1 & 2 classes. It's a 100 item exam. Finally, the textbook used for the friggin exam is managerial finance, 10th by Lawrence Gitman.) . One thing that I didn't like about it is that we didn't get to know our exam scores. Shucks...That's life I guess.

2. I became an active member in MaFIa (Management of Financial Institutions) and running for officership this 3rd term. Hehehe, I'm doing it for fun of doing something productive ( Having new friends and stuff) and the added points it would add to my CV ( Curriculum Vitae).

3.I got my drinking groove back. I got a bit more tolerant to alcohol since I get to drink more this year! Yeah!

4. My asthma and allegries got worse this year. Maybe I should invest on a skin test to know what stuff can literally kill me! ( Advil and its derivatives are example of those)

5.Broke up with my honeycoh ( Darwina Salih) on christmas. Remember Darwina , though we have parted ways, you are always a part of who I am right now and whenever I go. For that I am truly thankful for everything that I have learned and experienced from you. Mwahhh...

6.Hehehe, Our university got its ass kicked in the jfinex contest by a provincial school.

7.Had new friends during the year ( Jennai, Edward, Geoffrey, MaFia Officers , etc.) . Friendly me!hehehe more friends to add to friendster!™( Always include the ™ sign whenever you are using a name which has it.)

8.Got a professor who has a DBA ( doctorate in business adminstration) who purporterly does fractal analysis ( Application of Chaos Theory) of PSE and cannot teach decent statistics to us. We have to self learn how to do ARIMA ( Autoregressive Integrative Moving Average) ourselves. It's BS( Bullsh*t)!Arghh...I have to bug some of my friends in applied economics to gather their notes in econometrics so that I could compensate for the nuttiness of our professor ( Dr. Villy Vital, though he claims that he's a good financial strategist) in FINQUAM ( Quantitative Techniques in Finance)

9.I found out the GSB ( graduate school of business) in our univ is kind to those who inquires about their programs. I'll include an excerpt of the emails I've had

Hi Benson, Sorry to have taken quite a while to reply. Please note my answers to your questions below and thank you for considering the program. I hope you will find my answer to your questions satisfactory. If you have any more questions, feel free to contact me. Regards, Gabriel Barretto

-----Original Message----- From: Benson Louie Go [mailto:benson_louie1@yahoo.com] Sent: Mon 8/2/2004 4:29 PM To: barrettog(Barretto,Gabriel _) Cc: Subject: Inquiry about the computational finance prog

I'm quite interested in the program (MSCF) that i'm taking it as one of options that I have for Graduate school ( the other choice would be MSFE or M in Math in DLSU ) after I graduate from our alma mater. but I need to know the following from the program :

1. Does it include higher mathematics that is present in modern finance? ( Stochastic calculus, brownian motions, martingales, linear algebra, PDE's, probability theory, etc.) Also, if it has, would teach it as part of your curriculum? *

A:Yes to all the above. We are assuming no knowledge on the part of the student.

2. Do you accept MFi majors ( that is my major. :) on this program? * Yes, we will be glad to accept you. All that has to be done is to pass the entrance exam.

A:The only pre-requisite left for you to comply with is that you should have at least 3 years of working experience. If you think that you should still be let into the program even without such, you can contact me on my cell phone 09178358328 or leave me a number where I can call you.

3. What is the primary focus of the program?

A:* The primary focus of the program is to develop people into quantitatively adept finance practitioners who are particularly skilled in utilizing computer technology (i.e. MS Excel, SPSS). FYI, we are also tracking the CFA program. By tracking I mean we hav e subjects which closely monitor the CFA's standards of learning but we are more of a complement rather than a redundancy or review program.

The main difference in the two programs lies primarily in its focus. We focus primarily on educating the student for direct application to business and technology oriented, while MSFE is focused on academic research and more theory based.

Nice isn't it? That how's to entertain an inquiry! I give a kudos to the GSB for it's informative reply. :D

10. Recently, I stumbled upon a shop in quezon city ( It's a secret) that serves deliciously addictive hashbrowns that I thought @ 1st just like anything else served in McDo. I took a bite on a particular hashbrown they served and suddenly I got addicted! It's soooo yummy! Hehehe..As time goes by I frequent that place more! I don't know what the hashbrowns are made off but it feels like everything in the world is good. Also, this hashbrown has an ability of accepting who I am! I don't know, maybe this hashbrown has a good hunch of who I am! Yes, call me crazy, a fool or whatever you want to think off, this is how I feel for this particular hashbrown that I'm always with ( "masarap and it feels like everything that I look for in a hashbrown"). I won't drop hints where to locate this hashbrown shop and the particular hashbrowns that I chomp but I assure you, you won't regret if you get to figure it out where it's located. Happy shop hunting! Mwahahahaha

11. Still looking for thesis mates! It still continues thru 2005! Arghhh!!!

12. Collected a lot of books in preparation for my upcoming battles! Just visit my room and see the new additions!Enjoy

13. My brother Bernard Lester didn't flunk his college algebra in lyceum! Cheers! Also, my brother Brent Leonard is getting the hang of fabricating IC protectors ( I think silicon plastic based stuff) in the factory of my godfather ( Oh boy, I hope that I can pull off something like that in the near future)

14.Shit! I'm already 21! I'm getting old, this year, Getting to 22! Another year of existence I should say...("I remember.....Why should I care? :D )

15.Tower records had a wacky idea of putting up a store in SM north...Just sharing the fact. I dunno what the store owners are thinking? Putting your store on some place where pirated CD's are the king of the game! Anyways, I hope they don't get burned out here ( In the states, they're whooped by the likes of napster, kazaa, etc.).

Well, This is what I think happened to my life that is worth sharing, :D have fun!
